It's #Christmas, but in a world filled with war and hatred, where do we find peace? This photo by @martieda is incredibly haunting to me—a typical Christmas scene it's not. So many familiar elements but the context is all wrong. Serenely kneeling at the center are the iconic Mary and Joseph—surrounded by debris and destruction. It's as though they, like most of us, have on a painted smile while everything around is falling apart. And the most glaring of omissions...the Christ child is missing.
IMHO...without the babe of Bethlehem our world is a warzone fraught with inhumanity, fear, and destruction. Please note I did not say "without religion." I fear that religion can be the source of much that is wrong with this world. I'm talking about Jesus, the one who came to save us from our selves and the one we are looking for this Christmas.
On this 2nd Sunday in Advent, let's take a moment to consider a world where the babe is at the center. Maybe then we will truly see Peace on Earth, Goodwill to men.
